Get the flu shot

The flu is a very contagious infection of the airways.  It is important to note that the flu is different to the common cold.

A cold normally lasts for a few days and symptoms are not as serious.  A flu vaccine can prevent you from contracting the fluas well as protecting other people, especiall those too young or ill to be vaccinated.

New vaccines are made every year based on the strains most likely to be present during the coming flu season. You should get vaccinated before the flu season begins between June and September. March and May are the recommended months.

Lifestyle Management

Get plenty of sleep, be physcially active, manage stress well, drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated and eat nutritious food.

Avoid close contact with people who are sick: due to the contagiousness of the cold and flu.

Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth: these viruses often spread when someone touches something which is contaminated with germs and then touches their eyes, nose or mouth. When sneezing or coughing it is best to cover mouth or nose with tissues to further avoid the spread of germs.

Clean your hands: washing your hands will often protect you from infections. When soap and water is unavailable you can use an alcohol-based hand rub.

Complimentary medicines

You can take some natural complementary medicines which could enhance your immune system function - to prevent getting the infections and/or shorten the duration of illness if you do get ill.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C levels decline during infection; increasing your intake helps suppor the immune system response, reducing the severity and duration of the common cold symptoms and acts as a natural antioxidant.

Probiotics

Probiotic helps regulate the immune system through communicating directly with our immune cells and thus maintaining a healthy immune response. GO Probiotics help build your immunity and support a healthy gastrointestinal system.

Echinacea, Olive Leaf, Garlic, Sambucus and Pau d'Arco

These herbs work alongside immune support of vitamin C and Zinc to not only build a healthy immune system but to reduce the duration and severity of the common cold.
